How to make a simple salad in under 10 minutes


Do you find you always make the same salad and tend to get bored of it? I have put together a list how to create “fancy” salads by adding a few simple things. Making a salad shouldn’t take longer than roughly 10min.

Who has time these days to stand in the kitchen for 2 hours?

What I usually tend to do is preparing something for multiple meals. If it is a salad I would put the dressing in a small container so the veggies don’t get all soggy.

Ok let’s get started with the salad prep!

Choose your base:

  • rocket
  • baby spinach
  • mixed salad leaves
  • cos
  • lettuce

Keep things simple and choose two add ons (e.g.):

  • cucumber & shredded beetroot
  • steamed aspargus & steamed green beans
  • tomato & olives
  • shredded carrot and finely sliced red cabbage
  • capsicum & snow peas
  • grilled zucchini & eggplant

Fancy it up choosing one or more of the following:

  • sprouts
  • pepitas/ sunflower seeds
  • herbs” basil/ mint/ coriander/ dill
  • dried herbs: chilli flakes, oregano, zaatar etc.
  • fresh fruit: papaya/ pear
  • nuts: walnuts, crushed almonds, macadamias
  • feta/ haloumi
  • avocado

Choose a protein:

If in a rush:

  • free range ham
  • smoked salmon
  • tuna

If you have a little bit of time on your hands:

  • poached chicken
  • grilled fish/ salmon
  • grilled rump steak
  • ……

Finish it off:

Three of my favourite super simple salad dressings are:

  • olive oil & lemon
  • olive oil, lemon, hulled tahini, apple cider vinegar
  • olive oil & balsamic vinegar
  • Or try something different choosing avocado or macadamia oil
